'Juxtaposition'

I was invited to exhibit the illustrations 'A View from the Bridge' and 'The Sleep of Reason' in 'Juxtaposition', an exhibition of contemporary collage and video art at the Museum of Club Culture, Hull. Curated by Mark Wigan, the exhibition marked the Centenary and continuing legacy of DADA. The exhibition formed part of  a programme of artistic interventions during 2016 and 2017, Hull's year as UK City of Culture.

Evoking the spirit of DADA the exhibition included collage, assemblage, sound and video art from the following artists: Michelle Thompson, Martin O’Neill, Paul Burgess, Austin Von New, Mark Wigan, Louisa Minkin, Gordon Dawson, Priya Sundram, Kerry Baldry, Marcel Craven, Michael Szpakowski and Mark Wigan.

'Peculiar pleasures'

Two illustrations were selected for inclusion in the exhibition 'Peculiar Pleasures. An 'International Exhibition of Art and Illustration' shown at the Milkwood Gallery, Cardiff, in November 2010. Curated by Spike Dennis, invited international artists were asked to respond to a theme inspired by Jorges Luis Borges’ 1957 publication ‘The Book of Imaginary Beings’, exploring through visual practice 'the physical world and those ethereal spaces that stand on the margins of our consciousness between the known and the unknown'. The illustrations shown in the exhibition were 'Making of a Monster' (Part 1 & 2).

The Exhibition Catalogue was published by Spikeworld and edited and designed by Spike Dennis ©  2010. Catalogue internal Photographs were courtesy of Spike Dennis and Naomi Calvert © 2010.
